What can you do with
Scratch Tactile?
Move a character
-
With Scratch Tactile, program a character to move across the background or stage.
-
The flag always goes first and then the blue movement blocks (arrows).
The idea: Why tactile ?
-
You can print a background, ask your students to draw one, or use a blank sheet of paper and place items, obstacles, etc. in the boxes.
-
Make it tactile. To make the background more accessible, use tangible elements such as: small objects from the natural environment, small objects from the classroom, play dough or clay, adhesive tactile elements with different textures (for example, foam rubber, velcro, adhesive tape with textures, etc.)
Create a character
-
You can draw a character, cut it out and place it on the character stand that comes with the kit.
-
Choose a doll or toy that you have nearby.
-
You can create a character with play dough or clay using the supports.
-
You can look for everyday or natural objects and draw a face on them.
-
If you're more daring, 3D print a character from the internet or design your own.
Encourage collaboration
-
Have a student propose the challenge to solve or the project to create.
-
A different student must do the program.
-
And another student will read the program and execute it by moving the character.
Reflect on the inclusion of people with disabilities
-
Scratch Tactile is a good tool to make visible, reflect, learn and normalize the disabilities that many people have.
-
Create debate on issues of accessibility, multiculturalism, social inequalities so that students get involved with the challenges of today's society and develop a sense of solidarity, equity and cooperation.
-
It promotes empathy by incorporating activities in the classroom that allow students to experience the difficulties faced by people with disabilities and putting those who need help the most at the center.
Create your project on screen with ScratchJr
-
If you have a screen, you can transfer your project to the ScratchJr app.
-
You will have to make some adjustment like controlling the speed or the pauses (with the wait block) (computers need us to tell them everything they need to do).
-
Scratch Tactile is ideal as a preliminary step to creating projects on screen and making them digital.
